My prediction for tomorrow: Kerry wins 298-240. Kerry holds all of Gore's states plus takes Ohio, New Hampshire, Nevada, and Colorado. Bush holds Florida. This prediction is based on nothing other than my wild-ass hunch. I also predict that a massive earthquake will rock Nova Scotia tomorrow and that all of the American Northwest and Western Canada will be overrun by a porcupine army. They will be extremely well organized and prickly. Fuck terrorism. Porcupine slavery will be the real issue confronting the next president.
Leave your predictions for tomorrow, as well as whether you prefer digging tunnels or gathering roots and berries for our new porcupine overlords
Posted by mike at November 1, 2004 08:01 PMBased on my calculations, it'll be 301-237. And by "my calculations", I mean "playing with the Los Angeles Times' interactive electoral votes map until it makes me happy". And I'm definitely getting ready for the porcupines. I think that if I sharpen my front teeth, I'll be able to strip bark off the trees and give it to them as gifts.
Posted by: Arianna on November 1, 2004 08:06 PMRed Sox in 4. Wait, that already happened.
Too many states will be too close to call so they will just stitch together a franken-president out of parts from both candidates. But because he will win the popular vote, Kerry's brain will be used.
I'm going to join the beaver resistance against the porcupine occupation. Viva beavers!
Posted by: Pat on November 1, 2004 09:23 PMKerry 270-268. Based on 2000, Bush drops AZ OH and NH but gains PA and DE. (Delaware. We're in Delaware.) All random guesses. And the "darwin award state" (ie the FL of this year) will go to.... PA! (and you thought it was going to be OH).
Interestingly the Bush states in this scenario are contiguous (except for AK of course). Yes folks, soon you'll be able to walk from Dover to Reno without touching a blue state. You heard it here first. Of course you could say the same today about the Bismark-to-Corpus-Christi trek but that should surprise nobody.
Also, this scenario puts almost all of the upper-midwest / great lakes states in the blue. Does this reflect a semisubconscious affinity for my home region? Sure. (IN, you'll come around some day... probably when you figure out a sensible timezone and daylight savings policy.)
Posted by: Adam on November 1, 2004 09:40 PMForget earthquakes and electors. We need to focus on the issue at hand... Has it yet been proven that Dick Cheney is not a porcupine? His demeanor and posture would indicate that he has spent significant time in the darkness underground... Get out and vote, people! This is the most important election of your lifetime!
