Every once in a while, Maureen Dowd is poetic. The title there is from the last line of her latest column.
But here is maybe the most interesting line:
Guerrilla attacks on American soldiers are labeled acts of terrorism rather than acts of war, even though the official U.S. definition describes terrorism as attacks on civilians.
Good point, Maureen. This is a war. And while you may lament the deaths of soldiers, the fact of the matter remains that soldiers are legitimate targets in a war BY DEFINITION OF BEING SOLDIERS.
Going to strange places and getting shot at is part of the job description, and I'm sorry if that sounds callous, but it's true. To label attacks on American soldiers the work or "terrorists" is to render the term meaningless. Though who am I kidding? The term has long since been rendered meaningless.
To better times. Please.
