That's the first thing I saw on a large banner when I visited Vieques last summer. Didn't think it was going to happen.
But they really did it. After promising in early 2001 to end the US Naval bombing of the island, I was sure Bush would renege on his word, citing homeland security concerns or some other nonsense.
But to his credit he didn't and now the Navy is gone. I hope that the government makes good on its other promise to clean up the wreckage it left behind. But I can enjoy this for now.
