Bush the Pilot

Visiting sailors off the shore of California

Bush rode shotgun aboard a Viking refueling plane to the carrier about 30 miles offshore. He took the controls for a third of the flight, keeping the aircraft pointed straight ahead. ``I miss flying, I can tell you that,'' he told reporters.

Oh yeah? Do you miss dodging the draft as well? Or how about going AWOL for the last part of your stint in the Texas Air National Guard? Do you miss that too? I'm sure it was rough there, protecting Texas from a possible invasion by Nicaragua or one of those other countries down there that you can't spell.

Note to Democratic Presidential Nominee: Draft Dodger. Play that fucking card against the Chimp every chance you get, because you know he will play the "you're not concerned about the safety of Americans," bullshit.

Oh, and the Boeing speech in St. Louis that the article mentions? The guys I know there tell me the speech sucked. When Bush brought up the tax cut thing, the Boeing employees demurred. Funny huh? Guess they're just missing the obvious link between Iraq and cutting taxes on people making more than 300K a year. Those clods....

Chimp pretends he's Eisenhower

Bush was moved to the front of a long waiting list when he entered the T.A.N.G. While he did that, some other shmuck who was less connected or simply just unlucky, took his place. Bush also went AWOL during his last 15 months he was supposed to serve, but still managed to get an honorable discharge. Some guys are just lucky I guess. His predecessor? Irrelevant to the story. Same goes for Dole, McCain, and Kerry. I do though think the student deferment option was one that many chose to take, and Clinton was singled out for it by a right wing mob during the 92 campaign. But when George has to actually use his name recognition to pull some strings, something Clinton didn't have back then, it's somehow all cool and the gang and we don't have stories on how Bush deliberately avoided the draft.

You don't need to be toe to toe with Charlie. Something like 15 percent of US forces in Vietnam saw actual combat. You do though have to step up the plate when you're called and not let someone else take on your risks and responsibilities. That's cowardice and its typical of this president.
